Gŵyl Fama has developed from Gŵyl Cilcain which began as a fundraising concert held at Capel Gad, Cilcain on 17th October 1993 organised by musician Peryn Clement-Evans, renowned actor Meredith Edwards and members of the chapel.
In 2001 Gŵyl Cilcain's partnership with its main sponsor at the time, The Beaufort Park Hotel, won a national award from Arts and Business Cymru.
In 2007 the festival was re-named 'Gŵyl Fama' to reflect the aim of extending the area of benefit and inviting towns and villages in the area to join the cultural activities.
The aim of Gŵyl Fama is to enrich the lives of people from all sectors of the community with live music, the arts and Welsh language culture in a spirit of friendship.
The new name was launched at the Flintshire and District National Eisteddfod in 2007. In October of 2007, 2008 and 2009 successful cultural events were programmed and held in the towns and villages around Moel Famau. By now, as a result of the committee's vision and through the support of local people, Gŵyl Fama has developed into a vibrant nine-day festival.
This year the festival offers a varied cultural programme which includes classical concerts, youth music and arts village, bilingual poetry evening, a creative writing trail and a cymanfa ganu. Gŵyl Fama events take place this year in Cilcain, Loggerheads, Hendre, Mold, Llanferres, Pantymwyn, Hope and Flint.
